Rules

Everything the EPL Prediction Challenge runs on — the draft, scoring, and how ties are broken.

The draft

  • Every entrant gets a $1,000,000 budget to draft 5 of the 20 Premier League teams.
  • There's no exclusivity — like daily fantasy sports, multiple entrants can draft the same team. Your budget is the only real constraint.
  • Once the draft locks, your 5 teams (and your tiebreaker guess, below) are locked in for the rest of the season.
  • Team prices can be adjusted by the admin before the draft locks; already-saved entries aren't affected by later price changes, only the price shown on the draft board.

Scoring

Every team's score updates live, all season, straight from real Premier League results — there's no waiting for the season to end to see where you stand.

Wins & draws3 / 1

3 points per win, 1 point per draw — the league's own points tally.

Goals+0.5 / −0.5

+0.5 for every goal scored, −0.5 for every goal conceded.

Position bonus+35 to −25

Based on where a team currently sits in the real table: +35 for 1st, +25 for 2nd–4th, +15 for 5th–6th, +10 for 7th–10th, 0 for 11th–15th, −10 for 16th–17th, −25 for 18th–20th.

Your entrySum of 5

Your total score is the sum of your 5 drafted teams' scores. Highest total wins.

One detail worth knowing: a team doesn't earn its position bonus until it has actually played a match. Before then, every team is tied at position 1 in the table with nothing decided yet, so the bonus (and each team's score) sits at 0 rather than everyone getting credit for 1st place.

Tiebreakers

If two entrants finish with the exact same total score, ties are broken in this order — each one only comes into play if everything before it is still tied:

  1. 1
    Cheapest roster cost

Whoever spent less of their $1,000,000 budget on their 5 teams wins the tiebreak — rewards drafting for value, not just spending the whole budget.

  2. 2
    Most goals scored

If roster cost is also tied, whoever's 5 teams scored more real goals combined wins.

  3. 3
    Closest champion-points guess

At draft time, every entrant guesses the real Premier League champion's final points total. If the tie is still unresolved, whoever's guess ends up closest to the actual number wins. Guesses are hidden from other entrants until the draft locks, so no one can see and copy someone else's number first.

  4. 4
    Shared ranking

If two entrants are still fully tied at this point, it's because they drafted the exact same 5 teams and guessed equally close — there's genuinely nothing left to separate them, so they share the ranking rather than an arbitrary tiebreak deciding it.
